In Atmospheric Detachment I, a 5”x7” plein air study, I aimed to capture the overwhelming cloud that seemed to grow beyond the atmosphere.

I loved using smaller brushes to emphasize the vast scale of the cloud against the delicate tree line along the river’s low horizon, grounding the scene amidst the powerful sky above.
