In River Sketch II, I expanded upon my initial pochade—a quick, small-scale oil study—emphasizing the contrast between a resilient riverside tree and the industrial presence of bulk carriers transporting golden wood chip piles. I used more dynamic brushstrokes to convey movement in the sky, adding tension, while the exposed imprimatura introduces warmth, highlighting the balance between nature and industry along the Fraser River.
