Got Your Own Bench?
Oil on canvas
16 x 20 inches

Inspired by a winter walk in the Lake District, this piece reflects on how even a small amount of light can shift a dark landscape. Visiting a historic church made me consider private pews as symbols of social hierarchy, raising the question: how do we claim our own space in life, free from external pressures?

This idea is mirrored in the composition, where light gently breaks through the darker areas of the scene. The muddy path stood out—not only as a physical lead to a stunning view but also as a metaphor for finding direction.

Even in shadow, the path softly reflects light from the clouds above, guiding the eye inward and creating balance within the painting.
